The plots look quite close to me (the one on the website is visualized 
in log scale).

We changed a bit the structure of input/output and did not updated the 
online recipes yet; the tunneling_000001.dat is depecrated.
I suggest you to use the latest MPI version you find on the website and 
give a look to this tutorial 
http://www.dftb-plus.info/fileadmin/DFTB-Plus/public/tutorials/cecamhp/html/ 
for comparison.
