I am not sure I understand you correctly.

It does not appear very surprising, that a transition metal complex
containing amide groups would exhibit a distinctly different electronic
structure from a Fullerene, which is closely related to conjugated carbon
sheets.

If your question is aimed at which more precise method might reveal effects
that are not included in the DFTB results, I would suggest either time
dependent DFT (TD-DFT) or TD-DFTB or methods which can take into account
excitonic effects, such as GW or BSE, depending on the kind of excitation
you are interested in. Unfortunately, I am not an expert in these methods.

However, regarding the PDOS plot you sent in your last mail, are you sure
that the energy scales match between your calculation and the reference
results? In the reference, C60 has a clear HOMO-LUMO gap of about 3.5 eV,
while no such gap is present in your results. A quick calculation of an
isolated C60 reveals a DOS which is quite similar to the C60 lines in your
reference calculations, while the "C60" line in from your calculation shows
almost no similarity.
Things you should check include:
Is your geometry optimized?
Are your lattice vectors optimized or at least realistic?
Where is the Fermi energy in your PDOS plot?
Are you absolutely sure you selected the right atoms? Comparing your PDOS
plots to those from your reference, the "C60" line looks like it was mushed
together with something that has bands, while the reference clearly shows a
discrete, molecule like spectrum.
